DESCRIPTION:
Daniel Pratt's Sons, Reading, Mass., & 49 Union St, Boston, Circa 1850, 30-hour time/strike "four steeple" sharp gothic.
CONDITION:
refinished mahogany veneered case in especially clean condition. Dial and movement are both signed C. Jerome, but these seem to be replacements as there are blocks inside the case for a movement with a full-width seatboard that would slide into the groves. Hands are period. Design on the tablet is well preserved. An example of a very similar case with the S. B. Terry movement is shown in "Horology Americana", pg. 184; this was most likely in this case originally. Note also that the pendulum bob has been modified so that this mov't will keep time in this case. Mov't is clean & runs briskly. Ht 19.75"
